What is a Dental Veneer?
If you are looking for a fast way to improve the appearance of your smile, veneers are an excellent option.
Veneers are small, thin coverings that are bonded to the front side of your teeth. They can hide the flaws on your teeth that make you self-conscious, such as stains, chips, or cracks. They can also be beneficial for hiding gaps or oddly-shaped teeth.
Getting veneers is a big decision and one you should not take lightly, as veneers cannot be removed. However, our team at Markham 7 Dental can help you determine if this is the right treatment option for you.
Let us help you choose between porcelain veneers and composite resin veneers based on your lifestyle needs and aesthetic goals. We are ready to address any concerns you may have regarding the process and outcome of this procedure.
Features of Veneers
If you are looking to alter the shape of individual teeth or the evenness of your whole smile, you may want to consider dental veneers as a less intrusive alternative to dental crowns.
A benefit of veneers is that they can be made from a variety of materials. Porcelain veneers are a popular option because they are strong and don’t discolour over time. Porcelain veneers look very natural because they have a similar translucency to tooth enamel.
Composite resin veneers are another common choice that are cost-friendly and simple to fix if they chip or crack. Since only a small amount of tooth enamel needs to be removed before applying them, composite resin veneers are easy to place on the teeth.
If cared for properly, veneers can last for many years.
The Process of Veneers
If you're getting veneers, the process begins with your dentist filing down your natural teeth to make room for the veneers. Once your tooth is smaller, your dentist will take an impression of it and send it to a dental laboratory where your custom veneer will be crafted. In the meantime, your dentist will place a temporary veneer on your tooth.
Once your veneer is made, you will return to our office and the veneer will be bonded to your tooth with a dental cement that is hardened with a special light.
If you have opted for resin veneers instead of porcelain, these can usually be done in one appointment. After your dentist has filed your tooth down to make room for the veneer, they will place the resin on to your tooth, mould it to the right shape, and harden it with a special light. The colour of the resin will be chosen specifically to match the rest of your smile.
